Owned and operated by SeaWorld, Discovery Cove is a theme park that offers a one-of-a-kind adventure for the whole family. From swimming with the bottlenose dolphins to feeding tropical birds to taking a walk along the ocean floor, Discovery Cove promises an experience that you will treasure for a lifetime.
Swimming with the Dolphins
Discovery Cove’s Dolphin Lagoon is usually the highlight of every visitor’s trip, as it is here that you can swim with the beautiful bottlenose dolphins. Each session lasts for about half an hour, beginning with the dolphins coming over to interact and play with you and your group. Their trainer carefully watches over all of the interactions, as well as the photo opportunity that comes next. Finally, when it is time for the session to end, each visitor is ‘towed’ back to shallower water by one of the dolphins.
Feeding Tropical Birds
The best time to visit Discovery Cove’s Explorer’s Aviary is in the mornings, as this is when all of the stunning jewel-colored birds are eagerly awaiting their breakfast. Visitors are given cups of food, and, once the birds spot this, they fly down and land wherever they can, whether it be on your arm, your shoulder or your head! The three aviaries are home to an impressive number of birds, with their varying colors, sizes and calls adding to the park’s vibrant tropical atmosphere.
The Freshwater Oasis
With a rainforest canopy above your head and sparkling springs that surround you, the Freshwater Oasis is a tropical paradise that features various areas for exploration. The playful Asian otters are always a joy to interact with, while the water trails are where you can come face-to-face with the marmosets. The Freshwater Oasis also features an In-Water Relaxation Station, where you can sit back, enjoy a cold drink, and soak up the warm Orlando sunshine.
The Grand Reef
For those of you who want to interact with over 125 different species of fish, stingrays and sharks, then the Grand Reef is where to go. This lagoon spans over 2.5 acres, featuring a variety of different sections that make it enjoyable for all ages. Children can splash and paddle in the calm and shallow waters, while older kids can stroke, pet and feed the stingrays, with Discovery Cove photographers on standby ready to capture any exciting moments.
The Wind Away River
When it comes time to take a break from all of the excitement of Discovery Cove’s attractions, head on over to the Wind Away River, where you can grab a float and meander downstream around the park, passing by a coral reef, as well as the Explorer’s Aviary. The river also takes visitors underneath a waterfall, so be prepared to get showered by the cascading water!
Discovery Cove is always an adventure for anyone that visits, even if you have been there multiple times in the past. Whether you want to interact with animals or simply relax on a beach, Discovery Cove has it all, so be sure to remember to bring your camera!
