Want to plan the ultimate shopping spree?

Here are five cities that need to be on your itinerary…

New York

New York is frequently rated as the best shopping destination in the world, and it’s easy to see why. Everything from world-class department stores to bustling flea markets can be found in the city, catering to all types of shoppers.

If you’re looking for the best of the best, Madison Avenue is the road to head to first. Stretching out for 22 blocks, this street is lined with luxury brands, including the likes of Prada, Chanel, and Armani. This is also where you will find the OROGOLD Madison Avenue store, where you can treat your skin to VIP facials and product demonstrations.

On the other end of the scale is the Brooklyn Flea Market. This can be found in the Williamsburg area, and first opened in 2008. Since then, it’s expanded to include numerous vendors, making it the largest flea market in Brooklyn. Don’t be put off from visiting if you happen to be in New York over the winter, as the market moves to a 50,000 square foot indoor venue.

A few other notable shopping spots to visit in New York are:

  • Chelsea Market – this is a foodie’s paradise, with artisan cheese, homemade pasta, fine wine, and so much more
  • Macy’s – just about everyone has heard of this mall, which features 10.5 floors of everything from fashion and skin care to furniture and food
  • 5th Avenue – this is another luxury shopping street with several legendary brands, including Tiffany & Co., Armani, and Bergdorf Goodman
  • SoHo – this area is known for being exclusively chic. You’ll find art galleries, designer fashion stores, retro antique stores, and so much more

Dubai

Dubai is famous for being the main shopping hotspot in the Middle East. In addition to its chic and sleek shopping malls, the city is also bursting with traditional souks and other open air markets, giving you an exciting mix of both old and new.

The very first place to go is the Dubai Mall. With an internal floor area of 5.9 million square feet, this is the largest shopping mall in the world. You may think that this could be a bit of a headache to browse, but the mall is split into several sections that make it convenient to find what you need. Browse the latest designer garments at The Fashion Avenue, or check out the more casual vibe at The Village. This mall is also where you will find the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, as well as the SEGA Republic Indoor Theme Park.

Other notable malls in Dubai worth visiting are:

  • The Mall of the Emirates – this is the first shopping resort in the world, making the whole shopping experience so much more relaxing and even more enjoyable
  • WAFI Mall – this artistic mall is reminiscent of a museum, with its 150 shops surrounded by intricate decor and beautiful sculptures
  • Burjuman Centre – this mall exudes luxury, with some of the best brands in the world calling this mall home. From Christian Dior to Dolce and Gabbana to Hermes, you’ll find some of the most iconic designers in the world here

A shopping trip to Dubai wouldn’t be complete without spending some time haggling for a bargain at the local souks. There are numerous souks and markets sprinkled throughout the city, but some of the best are:

  • Deira Gold Souk – there are over 300 gold vendors selling around 10 tons of gold in this souk. Even if gold isn’t something on your shopping list, this one is still worth a visit, simply for the unique experience alone!
  • Bur Dubai Souk/Textile Souk – this market is all about textiles. From the stores selling raw silk, cashmere, and wool, to the traditional tailor shops that will transform those fabrics into one-of-a-kind creations, this is the souk to visit if you’re after some customized fashion
  • Perfume Souk – discover your new signature scent at the ultra-fragrant Perfume Souk. This maze-like market is lined with tiny stalls that are each stocked with a tantalizing array of perfumes and other such concoctions

Singapore

Many joke that the national pastime for Singaporeans is shopping, with this small island nation packed with an unbelievable number of stores and malls.

The main shopping street runs through the heart of the city, and is known as Orchard Road. You’ll find everything from quirky independent boutiques to gleaming mega malls here, making it no surprise that just about anything that you could need can be found on Orchard Road. Your best bet would be to start at one end and walk your way down, but give yourself at least a day or two to do this, since you’ll likely spend a few hours at each of the different malls.

Some of the best shopping malls on Orchard Road are:

  • Wisma Atria – home to fashion, accessories, and skin care, including an OROGOLD boutique store
  • Ngee Ann City – this Japanese-inspired mall is home to Takashimaya, which is the largest department store in the country, along with several other stores and services
  • Ion Orchard – after you’ve admired this mall’s contemporary architecture, you can easily spend a few hours browsing the 300 retail stores here, while also stopping in for a bite to eat at the many restaurants and cafes

Other notable shopping areas to visit include:

  • The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands – this mall is one of the most luxurious in Singapore. In addition to numerous premier brands, including Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford, you’ll also be able to dine at the many celebrity restaurants here
  • Funan – if you’re looking for the IT and electronics that Singapore is famous for, the recently refurbished Funan mall is the place to go
  • Suntec City – this mall is so large that it’s split into four wings, each one packed with a vibrant array of stores

Of course, Singapore isn’t only about designer malls and luxury brands. There are numerous markets around the city to browse too, including:

  • Bugis Street Market – just across the road from the sleek Bugis Mall, the Bugis Street Market specializes in low-cost, brightly-colored goods, making this the perfect place to go to bag yourself some souvenirs
  • Chinatown Street Markets – traditional but upscale Chinese goods can be found here, from artisan chopsticks to sophisticated calligraphy scrolls
  • So Galem Market – this buzzing flea market sells lots of homemade goods, from flower arrangements to candles

London

Oxford Circus in London

With London being such a cosmopolitan city, the shopping options here are truly varied, and that’s exactly what makes it shopping in London such a thrill.

Considered to be the busiest street in London, Oxford Street is also the city’s main shopping street. There are more than 300 shops, malls, and outlets here, with everything from quirky British fashion designers to international luxury brands. This is also where you will find Selfridges, one of the most famous shopping malls in the city.

Oxford Street may be diverse, but if upscale is what you’re looking for, then Knightsbridge is the place to go. This is where you will find the world-famous Harrods, which sprawls out across four and a half acres and stocks just about everything that you could imagine, accompanied with a high price tag.

Other popular London spots that shopaholics will adore include:

  • King’s Road – favored by many local celebrities, King’s Road is loved for its designer fashion and interior design stores, along with its vintage boutiques
  • Carnaby Street – a popular name in the 1960’s, Carnaby Street still has a lot going for it, with many cutting-edge clothing brands calling this street home
  • Westfield – unlike most of the other shopping centers you’ll see around London, Westfield is more American-style. There are over 300 retailers selling their goods here, along with a separate section of the mall called The Village, where you will find luxury fashion and an elegant champagne bar
  • Notting Hill – this is another area that is world-famous, partly due to the movie with the same name. Just like in the movie, real life Notting Hill is also boho-chic central, with numerous vintage designer boutiques lining the streets

Sydney

Shopping street in Sydney

Sydney definitely holds its own compared to the other cities on this list when it comes to retail therapy, with some of the best brands in the world found in the capital of New South Wales. Locals love staying atop of the latest trends, and this is mirrored by everything sold in Sydney’s stores.

One of the most iconic shopping malls in the city is Pitt Street Mall. This is the mall that basically has everything, from international fashion brands to jewelry and accessories. It’s a large mall, but once you’ve managed to finish browsing all that’s available, you’ll notice that there are several other smaller malls and shopping arcades that branch off from Pitt Street Mall, meaning that it will be a while before you’re actually done shopping in this area.

One of the malls that branches off from Pitt Street Mall is Westfield Sydney, where you’ll find several famous department stores, including Myer and David Jones. Intermingled with local brands are big-name designers, from Givenchy to Chanel to Calvin Klein.

Other shopping hotspots in Sydney are:

  • World Square – there are several popular clothing and cosmetics stores here, along with a good selection of eateries, making it easy to spend the entire day here
  • The Rocks Precinct – famous for its handmade goods and luxury fashion, as well as a large duty free shopping store. While you’re here, take a short stroll over to George Street, where you can treat your skin to some love and appreciation at the OROGOLD store
  • Harbourside Shopping Centre – if you like to enjoy a view while shopping, then the waterfront location of the Harbourside Shopping Centre won’t disappoint. In addition to shops, there are also several exquisite restaurants here, as well as movie theaters, bowling alleys, and more
  • Queen Victoria Building – this 19th century building in the CBD was originally built to be a local marketplace, which is why it takes over an entire city block. However, today it is home to over 100 different stores that sell everything from artisan foods to luxury fashion to fine art, all housed in the most elaborate of architectural styles

If you want a change of scene from shopping malls, spend some time browsing Sydney’s eclectic range of markets. Some of the most popular include:

  • Carriageworks Farmers Market – a foodie’s dream come true, with 70 different stalls selling everything from aged cheeses to organic nuts to freshly baked artisanal breads
  • Kirribilli Art, Design and Fashion Market – this monthly market is divided into two sections. The first is for fashion, which heavily features emerging designers, and the second is all about Art and Design, with homeware, ceramics, and so much more
  • The Rocks Market – this market is where all tourists go for unique souvenirs. Buy your loved ones back home an original print of Australian wildlife, eco-friendly jewelry, or gold-dipped native leaves
  • Paddington Markets – this is where Australian fashion brand Zimmermann began, and the market today continues to support up-and-coming designers. There are 150 stores to browse, selling a mixture of fashion, jewelry, and art, making this the market of choice for those who like to find the next big fashion trend
  • Manly Market – locals love this market for the fresh organic food sold here, along with the freshly cut flowers. However, you’ll also find stalls selling retro items and giftware, along with snacks that are perfect for spending the day at the nearby Manly Beach

Just about every city in the world has something to offer when it comes to shopping, but if you really want to be spoilt for choice, then these five cities are the places to go. From the laid-back vibe of Sydney to the bustling energy of New York City, any shopaholic planning their dream shopping trip will need to visit each of these destinations.

Have You Considered a Workation Retreat?

Woman with laptop on balcony

Working from home was an exciting change for many to begin with, but the novelty can quickly wear off. Those same four walls staring back at you each day can really de-motivate, leaving so many remote workers desperate for a change of scene.

This is where the workation comes in…

The concept has been around for a while, but it really took off during the Covid-19 pandemic, when striking a good work/life balance became so much more challenging. Vacations quickly became a thing of the past, and home became a place of work rather than relaxation.

A workation gives you the opportunity to enjoy a stunning new destination, but with a strong focus still being placed on work. Whether you’d like to type away on a tropical beach or set up a temporary office in a luxury hotel suite, places all over the world are now catering to this popular trend by offering up special workation packages.

The Maldives

Maldives from above

The Maldives may be a popular honeymoon spot, but it’s also an exquisite location to spend a workation. Sandy white beaches, crystal clear blue waters, and peaceful seclusion – what more could you want?

The Maldives actually consists of 1192 islands that are sprinkled across the Indian Ocean. With each island having its own unique charm, many visitors spend their free time island hopping to truly immerse themselves in this tropical paradise.

Where to Stay

There are now quite a few hotels in the Maldives offering workation packages. However, one of the most popular is The Nautilus Maldives.

Why?

Well, for starters, they’re based in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so you can only imagine how spectacular your surroundings will be. They offer week-long workation packages, but you can book for as many weeks as you want. Each package includes:

  • A personal assistant
  • A complimentary laundry service
  • Unlimited refreshments

If you would prefer to work outdoors, they’ll set up a special workstation just for you, complete with private WiFi, printers and scanners, and even a portable projector with its own screen.

The Soneva Fushi is another good option, with this resort offering a 50% discount when you book a stay for over 30 days. Their unique amenities are perfect for when you have some downtime, from speedboat trips to nearby islands to a night under the stars in a luxury Bedouin-style glamping tent.

Singapore

Singapore from above

Although Singapore is pretty built up, they have dealt with the Covid-19 crisis well, making it a great city in which to spend some time isolating away.

Just about every single one of the island nation’s attractions have adapted well to new restrictions, meaning that visitors are still able to enjoy the classics, all while staying safe. Plus, many of the country’s top attractions are outdoor-based anyway, such as:

  • The Singapore Zoo and Night Safari
  • Fort Canning Park
  • Sentosa
  • MacRitchie Reservoir
  • Singapore Botanic Gardens
  • Pulau Ubin
  • Jurong Bird Park

One of the highlights for many visitors to Singapore is the shopping, which many consider to be a national pastime. If your skin could do with a pick-me-up, drop in at one of the OROGOLD boutiques in Singapore, which are conveniently located around the island. You’ll be able to enjoy free product demonstrations, VIP facials, and so much more.

Where to Stay

Heard of the Singapore Sling cocktail?

It has made a name for itself around the world, and was invented at the Raffles Hotel, which also happens to be one of the best hotels in Singapore for a workation retreat.

Why?

Because they are offering “Work from Suite” packages, available on a daily rate. Each package includes access to the Raffles Butler Service, complete with secretarial support.

The InterContinental offers similar, but even has luxury pet amenities for those who want to workation with their pooch.

Florida

Florida from above

Famous for its amusement parks, beaches, and national parks, Florida offers workation visitors plenty of diversity. Covid-19 restrictions are starting to lift, meaning that its most popular attractions are once again open to the general public, although they will all still be following certain guidelines.

While the amusement parks may offer up a day of distractions, the relaxing beaches are usually the state’s biggest draw, with hundreds of miles of sandy stretches to choose from.

Some of the best beaches in the state to visit are:

  • Clearwater Beach – with shallow and clear waters, this one is perfect for families with young children
  • Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park – relatively undeveloped, making it great for getting away from the crowds
  • Caladesi Island State Park – another untouched stretch of white sand, which is also abundant in different bird species
  • Siesta Key – the sand here is made up of pure quartz, keeping it cool even in the hottest temperatures
  • Garden Key – one of the most remote and difficult to access beaches in the state, making it great for self-isolation

Where to Stay

Florida is large, and there are numerous hotels and resorts across the state offering up special workation packages. However, the Grande Lakes Orlando not only enjoys a prime location, but really does provide everything you could need for the ultimate workation.

The 11 Most Instagrammable Beaches in the USA

Hanalei Bay in Hawaii

It won’t be long before summer draws to a close, meaning that if you haven’t yet had a beach getaway this season, now is the time to do so. Of course, everyone wants some good vacation snaps to share on social media, so if visual appeal is what you’re after, here are the X most Instagrammable beaches in the USA.

Shark Fin Cove, California

View this post on Instagram

Sunsets over the ocean just never get old 😍 – No matter how many sunsets I see, I still find myself excited for each one, as the anticipation builds. What colors will appear, how will the clouds form, or will anything even happen? I think it’s this unpredictable beauty that makes each one such a blessing 🌅

A post shared by Michael Matti (@michaelmatti) on Feb 3, 2020 at 1:05pm PST

Secret beaches always have such a special feel to them, and this is exactly what you will find at Shark Fin Cove. Hidden away off Highway 1, this beach is named after its shark fin-shaped outcrop just out in the water.

This sandy beach is surrounded by looming sandstone cliffs, and while it may look small, there’s plenty of space here to give people privacy. The fact that the only way to access this beach is by a steep rocky path puts many of the crowds off, even though the path is only a third of a mile in length.

What’s there to do here?

There’s isn’t much in the way of facilities, but the natural wonders that you will find here are bound to keep you busy for quite a while. Don’t forget to also spend some time exploring the sea cave that has been carved out by the waves over the years.

Grayton Beach State Park, Florida

Florida is known for its picturesque beaches, but the Grayton Beach State Park, which sits on the Gulf Coast, is one of the state’s finest. This beach sprawls out for 400 acres, boasting clean white sands and a coastal dune lake that is packed with wildlife, along with fishing and paddling opportunities.

One of the features that really helps this beach to stand out is the fact that it is home to the first underwater museum in the country; the Underwater Museum of Art.

Wondering how that works?

There are seven unique sculptures placed 60 feet under the water, each one designed to help reef fish flourish. If you’re a certified diver, you can dive down and explore these sculptures close-up, while snorkelers can take a look at them from above.

Hanalei Bay, Hawaii

Is there a more special place than #hanaleibay? #canonfanphoto

A post shared by Abraham Kowitz (@abeskauaiphoto) on Jul 24, 2020 at 6:29pm PDT

You probably expected a Hawaiian beach to feature on this list – let’s face it, Hawaii is home to so many exquisite, Instagrammable beaches. However, one of the most impressive is Hanalei Bay, which can be found on the north shore of the island of Kauai.

Technically, Hanalei Bay is made up of a few different beach parks, all joining together to create a two-mile stretch of gorgeous beach. With a magnificent mountain range as a backdrop, Hanalei Bay looks stunning no matter where you’re standing.

Visit in the winter when the waves are larger for surfing, or in the summer if you prefer tranquil water for swimming. There are several other activities on offer here too, such as:

  • Paddle boarding
  • Kayaking
  • Swimming

Lindquist Beach, U.S. Virgin Islands

St. Thomas is known for its beautiful beaches, and while some of them may regularly be flanked by tourists, Lindquist Beach is a little lesser-known. It sits within the protected Smith Bay Park, which sprawls out for 21 acres and provides a lush backdrop that has earned this beach a prime spot in many television commercials.

This is a great beach for swimming – if you head to the west end, you’ll find a small bay where the water is even more shallow. Diving and snorkeling are great here as well, with the water being so rich in marine life. Simply relaxing on the sand is always a delight too, and you’ll notice that, when the sun is shining from a certain angle, the beach glimmers with a hint of pink.

There are only a few facilities here, which is why the beach still has such a laid-back ambience. In between the sea grape trees and the coconut grove are a couple of cabins that can be rented for parties, along with bathrooms and picnic tables.

Once you’ve had your fill of the beach, head into the heart of St. Thomas to indulge in some retail therapy. Be sure to stop off at the OROGOLD Virgin Islands Store – your skin will love a VIP facial after all of that time in the sun!

Located just off the coast of North Carolina, Topsail Beach is a part of Topsail Island, a 26-mile long barrier island that was previously only accessible by boat. After World War II, two bridges were built to connect the island to the mainland, allowing visitors to appreciate the magnificent beauty of the island’s untouched beaches.

With its white sand and sparkling waves, Topsail Beach is a photographer’s dream. For those seeking wildlife, there are several sites along the beach designed to encourage sea turtle breeding, allowing their dwindling population to flourish once again.

There are so many activities to try here, including:

  • Boat tours
  • Nature and wildlife tours
  • Kayaking
  • Parasailing
  • Paddle boarding
  • Windsurfing

There are also a handful of shops and cafes along the shore, giving you somewhere to go when you need some time away from the sun.

Often referred to as one of the most beautiful places in the world, Cannon Beach is a small city in northwest Oregon that is known for its sandy stretch of coastline. Haystack Rock has become an iconic feature of the beach, and it’s also a haven for wildlife, including the tufted puffin.

Once you’ve filled your camera with photos of this exquisite beach, head on over to Hug Point for some truly Instagrammable shots of the waterfalls. Then, spend some time exploring the Ecola State Park; there are several paved walking trails here that provide some incredible viewpoints of your surroundings.

There are so many different stretches of sandy coastline to choose from in Virginia Beach, but most visitors tend to flock to those closest to the boardwalk. Sandbridge Beach tends to be lesser-known, meaning that you won’t have to deal with crowds. The waves here are also much calmer, making it a great beach for swimming.

This is quite a secluded beach, making it a great one for relaxing and unwinding. For those seeking a more rugged adventure, the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the False Cape State Park are only a short distance away.

Don’t worry about this beach being too far out of town either – it’s just a few miles away from downtown Virginia Beach, meaning a short drive. Once you head back into town, pop into the OROGOLD Lynnhaven Mall store to treat your skin to a relaxing facial. You will also be able to enjoy product demonstrations and customized skin consultations.

Located in the Cupsogue Beach State Park in the Hamptons, Cupsogue Beach is a popular stretch of sand. Fortunately, since it sprawls out for 296 acres, this beach never gets too crowded.

Swimming is popular in these calm waters, and there are lifeguards on duty to keep everyone safe. The white sand beaches are a joy to stroll on, especially if you stop off for a home-cooked treat at the snack bar. If you would like to catch your own, this is where you will find some of the best saltwater bass fishing in all of the Hamptons.

There are plenty of facilities on this beach too, including showers and changing rooms.

The coastal area of Kennebunk itself is such an Instagrammable destination, but your camera won’t stop clicking once you reach Gooch’s Beach. Yes, there are two other gorgeous beaches to choose from (Middle Beach and Mother’s Beach) that make up this trio, but Gooch’s Beach is the largest and is home to some of the sandiest stretches of coastline.

The lifeguards on duty here make this a great beach for swimming, and the summer months see surfers flock to the shore. If you enjoy a spot of fishing, the Kennebunk River is where you will find plenty of bass.

Keep in mind that Gooch’s Beach is only 0.6 miles long, so it can get pretty crowded during peak tourist season.

Surfside Beach, Texas

Texas is home to over 400 miles of coastline, meaning that there are plenty of Instagrammable beaches to be found in the Lone Star state. However, one of the best is Surfside Beach, often referred to simply as Surfside, which is less than an hour’s drive from Houston. Located in Brazoria County, Surfside Beach is known for being one of the cleanest in the area, even though it attracts large numbers of visitors.

As you can tell from its name, Surfside Beach is a hit with surfers. Its waves are consistent and are recognized as being some of the best in the state. There are also several surf shops within walking distance of the beach – perfect for picking up any surf gear you’ve forgotten to pack.

Since the beach is located so near to the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, the beach itself has become a paradise for many wildlife species. In fact, more than 200 species of birds have been seen here, with different ones visiting each season.

If you get hungry, there are a number of local restaurants to choose from a short walk away from the beach. Here are a few of the best:

  • Jetty Shack is one of the oldest restaurants here, with juicy burgers and ice cold beer
  • Red Snapper Inn is famous for its fresh seafood
  • La Taqueria de Surfside serves up street tacos, and sits just behind Surfin’ Rita’s Daiquiris To Go – the perfect combination
  • Hammond’s Shaved Ice & Grill is another street food venue with barbecue brisket sandwiches, chopped brisket tacos, and icy cold treats that are so refreshing on a hot day

Singing Beach, Massachusetts

View this post on Instagram

Singing Beach, Massachusetts While some people may make the trip to Manchester-by-the-Sea to see where the movie was filmed, others come for the more curious Singing Beach: If you shuffle your feet in the dry sand you will hear a sing-song-like squeak. It’s wildly popular with families in summer, but from mid-October to mid-April, expect to hear more barking than singing, as it’s the beach’s official dog-friendly season.

A post shared by Lizzy Hunter (@6figuregrandma) on Jul 30, 2020 at 12:34am PDT

This 0.5 mile long Massachusetts beach, which can be found in Manchester-by-the-Sea, has quite an unusual name.

Want to know the story behind it?

If you shuffle your feet along the dry sand, you’ll hear it make a sing-song-sounding squeak.

This beautiful sandy beach is one of the most popular on the North Shore, but still remains so tranquil and serene. The soft white sand here is perfect for a leisurely stroll, especially if you time your visit for around sunset. If you’d like to get a bit more active, try your hand at some snorkeling or tube floating.

There are a few facilities here, including a snack bar with delicious icy treats on hot days, showers, and changing areas.

The USA is home to some incredible beaches, with every coastal state having at least one that they can be truly proud of. No matter where on the coastline you are, you’re never too far away from a picturesque beach that is more than deserving of an Instagram post!

From sharks swimming below your glass-bottomed floor to city skylines laid out in front of you, here are seven hotels with some of the best views in the world.

The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia Singapore – Singapore

A post shared by Unique Hotels & Resorts (@uniquehotels) on Jan 30, 2018 at 3:22am PST

If you want to treat yourself to the life of luxury, you won’t ever go wrong with the Ritz-Carlton. This five star hotel is located in the buzzing Marina Bay district of Singapore, with rooms offering sweeping, panoramic views of this vibrant area.

Every guest room, along with their marble bathrooms, boast this incredible view, with the decadently inviting tubs encouraging guests to sit back, relax, and soak up their surroundings.

What Else Does the Hotel Offer?

In addition to the view, this hotel has so much more on offer, including:

  • A five star spa with special, signature treatments
  • A 4200-piece art collection, with many pieces from world-renowned artists, including Andy Warhol
  • A Michelin-starred restaurant
  • A large outdoor pool with sun loungers and private cabanas

What’s There to Do Nearby?

Singapore isn’t big, and the location of this hotel makes it the perfect base from where you can explore the entire island. However, if you don’t want to venture too far, there is also plenty to do in the Marina Bay area.

Gardens by the Bay is a must-see, cutting-edge botanical garden, while the Merlion is a national icon. The Singapore Flyer, along with the Marina Bay Sands Skypark, will reward you with even more aerial views of the city.

Of course, the luxury stores in this area can’t be ignored either. You will find some of the best brands in the world here, including an OROGOLD store in the Marina Bay Sands mall, where you can enjoy product demonstrations and VIP facials.

The Outpost, Kruger National Park – South Africa

Wake up to this view.

A post shared by The Outpost Lodge (@theoutpostlodge) on Dec 15, 2019 at 11:27pm PST

Let’s face it – even on its own, the Kruger National Park is absolutely amazing. However, throw in a five star luxury lodge and you’ve got the recipe for a truly unforgettable vacation.

This hotel takes the open-plan concept to the next level – guest rooms don’t have any windows, giving you seamless views out over the wild African bush. With the hotel having just 12 suites, it never gets too busy, enabling you to enjoy the landscape uninterrupted.

What Else Does the Hotel Offer?

The international restaurant here serves up quality meals, but you can also request for a table to be set up for you somewhere else within the hotel’s grounds, meaning that you can enjoy personalized views with every meal.

The hotel also has a beautiful pool, and makes use of eco-friendly products.

Guests can go out on two game drives a day, giving them the chance to see the Big Five, along with Africa’s other legendary wildlife.

What’s There to Do Nearby?

The Outpost is in an area of total wilderness. In fact, this area used to be completely inaccessible to visitors, meaning that there isn’t too much else to do nearby. The nearest town, Louis Trichardt, is a three hour car journey away.

However, the lack of nearby activities is exactly what makes this hotel so appealing. For those who want to take some time out from their busy lives (and this is exactly what will happen, since WiFi here can be shaky), and simply make the most of what the natural world has to offer, this is the perfect spot to visit.

Don’t be – the igloo is actually built into the wall of a larger log cabin, so you can either choose to sleep under the stars, or in the privacy of your cabin.

What Else Does the Hotel Offer?

The log cabins have hot showers and saunas for guests to enjoy, which is something you’ll need after coming in from the frigid temperatures.

If you visit in the summer, you’ll be able to take part in a gold-panning activity, or enjoy a horse safari.

What’s There to Do Nearby?

Although the hotel is in quite an isolated location, there are a surprising number of activities to do nearby, including:

  • Visiting Santa’s Home
  • Exploring the largest national park in Finland, the Urho Kekkonen National Park
  • Taking a day trip to the reindeer farm at Inari
  • Driving to Norway’s North Cape

Arlo NoMad, New York – USA

New York is another city famous for its views, and the windows in the rooms of the Arlo NoMad frame these panoramas beautifully. This boutique hotel offers views of both downtown and uptown Manhattan, placing you in the heart of all of the hustle and bustle but in your own private bubble.

What Else Does the Hotel Offer?

The Arlo NoMad has two delicious restaurants; Missoni, which is an authentic Italian restaurant, and The Heights, which is a cafe that sits 31 floors above New York City. You will also find a cocktail bar/lounge here, as well as a 24 hour marketplace with a wide variety of snacks and drinks.

What’s There to Do Nearby?

Being located just north of Madison Square, the Arlo NoMad is just a four minute walk away from the famous Empire State Building, making this the first point of call for visitors.

Once you have fully explored this landmark, start making your way around the rest of New York. Some of the city’s most famous attractions include:

  • Central Park
  • The Statue of Liberty
  • Times Square
  • The Museum of Modern Art
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Broadway
  • Ground Zero

If you are feeling overwhelmed with all of your many options, book yourself in for a city tour. The great thing about these is that you can choose a tour oriented towards your own personal interests. For example, if you love to eat, pick a food and culture tour. Alternatively, if you want to see as much of the city in as little time possible, pick a full or half day landmark tour.

While hotels around the world are now starting to open up again now that the worst of the Coronavirus pandemic seems to have passed, social distancing is still in place in most regions. So, while you may be ready to book your next vacation, it never hurts to choose a room with a view that makes you want to stay in.

Woman doing yoga by water

Have you been feeling a little more stressed than usual?

One thing that makes many feel better is planning a vacation, especially if that trip involves disconnecting from the modern day world, giving you some precious time to reset and rejuvenate. Here are five life-changing wellness retreats that promise to do exactly that.

The Rockovery Retreat, Ibiza, Spain

View this post on Instagram

Meet Cosmic Kim – our yoga teacher and crystal bowl sound healing expert. We first met Kim Booth (@kimboooth) as a young, fresh faced raver, (she’s now been coming to Ibiza, and living on and off the island for over 22 years), who worked in the dance music industry in journalism and PR. ——— Fast forward to now, she hosts the ever-popular @wellcosmicpineapple events at @pikesibiza in the summer (this year being its 5th year!) and is most looking forward to “sharing some magic for the heart and soul” with our clients on the Rockovery Retreat, through a powerful Cacao Ceremony, intention setting, plus exercises and breathing techniques that help you stay balanced and connected. ——— Drop us a DM for more info or email the team on reservations@pikesibiza.com 🙏🏼 ——— #ibiza #ibizaretreat #retreat #wellnessretreat #wellness #cosmic #cosmicconsciousness #pikesibiza #pikeshotel #rockoveryretreat

You may think of Ibiza as being a buzzing, tourist-filled hotspot, especially if you have already visited the Pikes Ibiza hotel, which has a bit of a hedonistic reputation. However, the summer of 2020 will see the hotel take on a slightly different approach to life…

This is where the Rockovery Retreat is being held – a wellness retreat with a rock ’n’ roll twist. Billed as being “a restart on your life, a rejection of bad habits, a rebirth of your true potential”, this retreat is being held for four days and three nights, with dates varying through the year. The retreat was designed by a personal trainer and nutritionist based in Ibiza, so you can be sure that both your physical and mental health will be top priority here.

What does this retreat involve?

You will be able to take part in a number of different activities on this retreat, including:

  • Wellbeing workshops
  • Guided sunrise meditations
  • Sunset yoga
  • Crystal bowls
  • Boxing classes
  • Breathing classes
  • Cooking demonstrations
  • Ibizan rituals
  • Vitamin injections

The retreat prides itself on welcoming in people from all walks of life and of all abilities and fitness levels, even those who are absolute beginners.

When it comes to accommodation, the rooms here are comfortable and luxurious, but with plenty of personality. The rock ’n’ roll theme is carried forward into the guest rooms, as well as throughout the hotel’s public spaces. When it comes to food, you’ll be able to sample a variety of healthy dishes, with a menu that caters to all tastes and requirements. One thing that you should know – the Pikes Ibiza is known for cooking up the best breakfasts on the island!

Once your four days are up, you could always extend your stay on this Balearic Island to enjoy everything else Ibiza has to offer. From its nightlife and beaches to its quiet villages and pine-clad hilltops, the vibrancy of Ibiza will perfectly complete your vacation.

The Quiet Transformation Retreat, Cozumel, Mexico

The Quiet Transformation Radical Self-Care Retreats in Cozumel, Mexico are held throughout the year from January to June. These seven day, seven night retreats are limited to groups of ten, with the activities here geared at all levels and abilities.

This is a retreat that focuses on stress-free living – teaching you how to take some time out for yourself to relax and renew. Design thinking is a concept that is heavily promoted here, with these principles being taught to retreat participants so that they are then better equipped to take proper control of their own lives once they head back home.

For those looking to take their lives in a new direction, the workshops here will be of particular interest to you. Some of the topics you may cover are:

  • Reframing your blockers and prototyping your future
  • Mapping out a life plan
  • Learning how to live an uncharted life

The daily schedules make room for plenty of free time, during which you can try your hand at the following:

  • Snorkeling and scuba diving
  • SUP boarding and kite boarding
  • Massage and aquassage
  • Acupuncture
  • Reiki

Accommodation and food is included in this retreat package, with all of the accommodation options located on a stunning stretch of beach, offering panoramic views of the Caribbean.

Wondering what you will be eating?

While the food served up here is Mexican-inspired, it is not the traditional Mexican fare you would find at a restaurant. Instead, the dishes are light, fresh and flavorful. Guests are able to sample new dishes each day, and all dietary restrictions are catered for.

Thanks to the retreat’s convenient location, this is the perfect opportunity to explore one of Mexico’s most diverse islands. If you’ve got some time to spare, make your way over to San Miguel de Cozumel, which is not only famed for its natural beauty, but is also where you will find an OROGOLD boutique store. Stop by for a relaxing VIP facial and complimentary product demonstrations – after all, your skin could do with a wellness treat too!

Sri Lanka is famous for its incredible natural beauty, and you will definitely see plenty of it if you are staying at the Santani Wellness Resort. This resort sits in the middle of an abandoned 120 acre tea estate, overlooking the Knuckles Mountain Range, which also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The retreat packages here vary from seven nights to 21 nights, focusing on everything from detox and stress to health and addiction. This is quite a unique retreat, in that it combines ancient Ayurvedic principles with modern day science and nutrition, bringing you the very best of both worlds.

So, what do these retreats actually involve?

That all depends on what you need:

  • Santani Recovery – a customized program designed to support people who have undergone physical or emotional trauma
  • Santani Detox – a program that helps to cleanse the body, which also prevents a number of diseases from developing, including cancer, diabetes and hypertension
  • Santani Weight Loss – a strategic weight loss program that will have you feeling healthy and balanced, as well as motivated to continue the program once you return home
  • Santani Sleep – provides relaxation techniques along with a nutrition and exercise plan to help promote better sleep
  • Re-Balancing Bliss – an indulgent relaxation program combining de-stressing treatments with mindful education
  • De Addiction – helps people to overcome substance addiction by strengthening the mind and restructuring the thought processes involved in this

Wondering what the accommodation here is like?

The resort has 16 stand-alone chalets, each one with a balcony that showcases a spectacular view of the jungle valley below and the mountain range in the distance. There are also four garden chalets designed for families, with strategically-placed glass walls to frame the lush greenery outside.

The food here is something to look forward to as well…

Gourmet wellness cuisine is the focus of the kitchen. The resort’s trained chefs prepare a healthy and natural customized meal plan for each and every guest. Some of the sample dishes include:

  • A citrus and beetroot cured pink salmon
  • Grilled Australian grass fed beef tenderloin steak
  • Traditional Sri Lankan curry and rice
  • Crunchy banana blossom salad with shredded coconut

Since the food is locally sourced and ultra-seasonal, the dishes on offer frequently change.

The Japanese are known for their wellness traditions, but if you aren’t able to jet off to Japan for a week or two, then New York’s Shou Sugi Ban House is your next best option.

What exactly is it?

It’s a 13-room destination spa/retreat that hosts a number of global wellness and healing activities for guests to partake in. The retreat is set on three acres of lush land in the Hamptons, inspired by the Japanese principles of wabi-sabi.

There are a number of options available here when it comes to booking your retreat…

Set packages, such as the Mind & Body Cleanse Retreat, are available, and these usually have a minimum of around three nights. Alternatively, if you live locally and do not have a few days to spare, you could also book yourself in for a day retreat. These combine different elements from the center’s Signature Retreat, enabling you to curate a day program that is fully catered to everything you need.

Wondering what the spa menu here looks like?

Well, to begin with, the spa at the Shou Sugi Ban House is expansive. There are both indoor and outdoor areas, a thermal suite, hydrotherapy plunge pools, an ice fountain, and so much more! Some of the specifics that you will be able to enjoy include:

  • Massages
  • Facials
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Reflexology
  • Crystal healing
  • Reiki
  • Vibroacoustic therapy
  • Shamanic healing
  • Shinrin-yoku

Guests stay in studios that are sleek but minimal, with high-end artisanal details. If you are traveling here from a distance, then the fact that the Shou Sugi Ban House is just 90 minutes from New York City is a bonus. Not only does this make flying in relatively easy, but it also means that you can then spend some time exploring the city, either before or after your retreat. While you’re there, be sure to stop off at one of the OROGOLD New York City stores, because your skin would appreciate some TLC too!

365 Days of Summer: 12 Sun-Soaked Destinations for Each Month of the Year

Boat on water with fish underneath

Got the winter blues?

That’s easy to fix…

Simply pack your bags, pick the month that you’re currently in from the list below, and book yourself a getaway to the corresponding destination.

January: Mexico

Although the weather in Mexico varies quite significantly between each region, January is usually the driest month across the entire country, making it a great time to visit. The temperature in January is still warm, but not unbearably hot, and you also won’t need to deal with the hoards of tourists that flock to Mexico later in the year.

Wondering where in Mexico you should go?

Here are some of the country’s best spots:

  • Jalisco – home to tequila and mariachi
  • Cozumel – this island is home to some of the best diving spots in all of Mexico
  • Coyoacán – located in Mexico City, this district is wonderfully bohemian in nature, with cobblestone streets, numerous sidewalk cafes and plenty of art
  • Puebla – this historic city is famous for its colonial architecture, culinary heritage and traditional pottery

If you need a skincare fix while you’re away, you will find an OROGOLD store in each of the Mexican locations listed above.

February: Goa

Located on the southwestern coast of India, Goa, for a long time, used to be a Portuguese colony, giving this state an intoxicating blend of Indian and Portuguese heritage. Goa is famous for its sun, sand and sea, along with its incredible seafood and its love for spirituality.

With so many new luxury hotels and villas now operating all over the state, Goa is a great place to go for a relaxing, indulgent vacation.

Why February?

Because December and January tend to be pretty busy in Goa, but March is when the waters become rougher and the temperatures more humid, making February the ideal month to visit.

March: Dubai

If you haven’t yet visited Dubai, make this the year you do so. Dubai really is unlike anywhere else in the world – its futuristic architecture, unbelievably large shopping malls, and general opulence and glamor really need to be experienced.

Of course, Dubai has a lot more going for it than just its city life…

Venture further afield for everything from camel safaris to camping under the stars, giving you an authentic taste of life in the desert.

Dubai experiences warm temperatures throughout the year, with November to April being its winter months. While this may be the case, this is still the best time to visit the city, with the weather being comfortably warm and dry.

April: Thailand

Ok, so Thailand in April can get pretty hot, even uncomfortably so.

So, why the recommendation?

Because April also happens to be the month of Thai New Year, as well as the Songkran festival, which marks the beginning of the summer season. Otherwise known as the national water fight, the festival runs for five days across the country, and features friendly water fights along with plenty of street parties.

If this doesn’t sound like your type of thing, there are many other places in Thailand where you can head to in April for some rest and relaxation. Try Railay for some truly epic beaches, which you can only reach via a 20 minute boat ride from Krabi, or, if you would prefer tropical yoga and Buddhist temples, head to Koh Samui.

Temple in Thailand in the mountains

May: Peru

With Peru’s rainy season ending in March, and the busy tourist season beginning in June, May is the perfect time of year to visit.

Most visit Peru for its awe-inspiring natural features, with the Amazon rainforest being a must-see for all visitors. This part of the rainforest is believed to be the most prolific and diverse section, and is also one of the most bio-diverse parts of the world.

Peru is also where you will find the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu, another area well worth a visit. If you are feeling adventurous, give the Inca Trail a try – this four-day hike is famed for being one of the finest trails on the entire planet.

June: Athens

Greece’s summer season begins in June, meaning that you are likely to experience peak tourist rates when booking your trip, but the overall experience will be more than worth it. The capital of Greece, as well as the heart of Ancient Greece, Athens has an amazing history behind it, with the city dotted with numerous 5th century landmarks that are open for public exploration. The most famous would be the Parthenon, a former temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena.

In addition to checking out all of the historic architecture around the city, you will find plenty of other things to do in Athens too, such as:

  • Visiting the National Gardens, featuring 16 hectares of landscaped grounds along with a small zoo
  • Checking out the Varvakios Agora, a food market featuring local vendors from around the country
  • Hiking to the top of Lycabettus Hill, one of Athens’ highest peaks
  • Touring some of the city’s museums, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens and the Museum of Cycladic Art
  • Watching a movie at Cine Paris, one of the city’s 90 outdoor film venues

July: New York

If you want to experience the summer months in one of the most important cities in the world, then head to New York in July. Yes, the temperatures can sometimes get a little too warm, but the thunderstorms that you will experience will also help to cool you back down. However, usually, the New York in July is comfortably balmy, making it a pleasure to explore the city’s many sights.

Even if you have never been to New York before, you are probably well aware of some of its major attractions. Everything from the Empire State Building to the Statue of Liberty to the Brooklyn Bridge are famous world-over, but, no matter how many times you may have seen these landmarks in the movies, there is nothing quite like experiencing them for yourself.

If you’re a first-time visitor to the city, the best way to begin exploring it is by signing up for a guided tour. Yes, this may seem a little cheesy at first, but this brief tour will take you to areas that you can then delve deeper into in your own time.

Does your skin not handle the heat too well?

Don’t worry, OROGOLD has several stores in New York, where you will be able to enjoy some product demonstrations, and even a VIP facial – anything your skin needs to be happy and healthy again.

August: Northern Spain

Street in Northern Spain

Some parts of Spain can seem stiflingly hot in August, with many areas pretty much shutting down at this time. Due to the heat and the inability to comfortably go about day-to-day activities, this is when most people take their annual leave, with some companies closing down for the entire month.

However, since the temperatures in the north of Spain are just about perfect in August, this area continues on as normal, making this month a great time to visit.

Not sure exactly where you should go?

Just about anywhere near to the Atlantic coastline will be ideal, such as:

  • San Sebastian – if you consider yourself a foodie, this food-obsessed resort down will seem like paradise to you. Make sure that you give pintxo, the local version of tapas, a try
  • Oviedo – famous for its medieval town and its 9th century Gothic cathedral, this historic city will teach you so much about the region’s past
  • Santiago de Compostela – a small city with narrow, winding alleyways, quaint architecture and a rich sense of culture

September: Croatia

If you want to avoid the crowds, then September is a great month to visit Croatia, since this is when the summer season is just about winding down. However, the temperatures are still warm, but make sure that you visit during the first half, rather than the second, of September.

Why?

Because, towards the end of the month, many of the seasonal attractions, including island bars and restaurants, begin to close down for the year.

Don’t know much about Croatia?

It is located in Southeast Europe, next to Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and a couple of other countries. Unlike some of the other destinations on this list, Croatia may not seem like an immediately obvious place to visit, but this country really does have so much to offer.

Not only is it packed with stunning pebbled beaches, atmospheric Roman ruins, sprawling national parks and soaring peaks, but you will also find quirky museums, trendy cafes, and a fascinating culture.

Plus, if you happen to be a Game of Thrones fan, many parts of the country will instantly seem familiar to you, from the city of Dubrovnik to the Fortress of Klis.

October: Hawaii

For the best chances of dry weather, visit Hawaii in early October, when it is still pleasantly warm, but before the rainy season hits. Of course, the specific island you pick will influence your experience too – Big Island tends to be the driest, while Kauai experiences the most rainfall.

When people think of Hawaii, they imagine palm-lined beaches, lush vegetation and a unique culture – all of this could not be more true. The islands are synonymous with paradise, and there are few that would disagree.

Can’t decide which island to visit?

Try Maui, which is consistently ranked as the best island in the world. In addition to the island’s rich natural beauty and amazing cuisine, this is also where you will find an OROGOLD store that will cater to all of your skin’s tropical needs.

November: The Canary Islands

View of Canary Islands beach at sunset

The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago that lies just off the coast of north-west Africa. There are eight main islands here, and several smaller ones, each dominated by their rugged, volcanic landscape.

Each island has a distinct personality to offer, with some of the most popular being:

  • Tenerife – the largest of the islands, Tenerife is also the most developed, and is home to the second-largest Carnival in the world
  • Fuerteventura – this island is one of the least-developed, with a desert-like landscape that makes wind-sports especially popular
  • Gran Canaria – this round island is packed with so much biodiversity, making it perfect for those who enjoy exploring the great outdoors

December: Australia

Australia experiences their summer towards the end of the year, which is why many choose to visit during these months. Of course, the temperatures you experience will depend on where about in the country you choose to visit.

If you’re seeking out the hustle and bustle of city life, there are plenty of major cities to pick from, including Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide.

Of course, many prefer to experience Australia’s wilder side, with the Daintree Rainforest, which is around 180 million years old, never being a disappointment. Fraser Island, with its 75-mile long beach, is also popular, as are the white beaches on the Whitsunday Islands, which are located just off the famous Great Barrier Reef.

For those of you who prefer to relax by enjoying some fine wines, Australia has you covered there too, with this country producing some of the best wines in the world. Check out the Barossa Valley for some big-name vineyards, including Wolf Blass and Penfolds, or head to Margaret River for some truly exquisite reds.

If you’ve just about had enough of the winter cold now, then why not treat yourself to a warm getaway? These 12 destinations each have so much to offer, not only in terms of warm temperatures, but also history, culture, natural beauty, and everything else that makes a vacation truly memorable.

7 Exciting New Flight Routes for Your 2020 Travel Plans

Aerial view of Montreal

Ever wished that it were easier to plan your travel adventures around the world?

Having to schedule multiple stops for inter-connecting flights can make the travel experience so much more stressful, which is why a direct flight to the destination of your choice is always the preferred option.

Well, you’re in luck, because 2020 has brought with it a number of new airline routes opening up all over the world. No matter where you live in the USA, chances are that an airport near you will now be giving you the opportunity to book a non-stop flight to an exciting new destination.

New Jersey to New Zealand

Steps leading to lighthouse

It used to take over 20 hours to fly from New Jersey to New Zealand, and every route out there would include at least one stop. Well, that’s all set to change at the end of October 2020, when Air New Zealand begins one of their longest long-haul flight routes, traveling between Newark and Auckland.

The new 8,800 mile route will take around 17 hours and 40 minutes and will operate three times a week, saving you quite a bit of time.

Never been to Auckland before?

There’s plenty to do here, such as:

  • Taking in the breathtaking landscapes at Waiheke Island and Rangitoto Island
  • Exploring the Waitomo Glowworm Caves
  • Visiting some of the best museums in the country, including the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki and the Auckland War Memorial Museum
  • Checking out some of the city’s family-friendly attractions, such as the Auckland Zoo and the Sky Tower

Love the sound of Auckland but put off by an almost-18 hour flight?

Don’t worry, if you’re willing to splurge, Air New Zealand offers a Skycouch service, where you can turn an entire row of economy seats into a flat-lie option. The plane that will be traveling this route is also known for its higher humidity levels, meaning that you won’t need to deal with 18 hours of dehydration either.

Dallas to St. Thomas

View of St Thomas and boats

The US Virgin Islands has seen a huge surge in tourism in recent years, so it only makes sense for airlines to try to capitalize on this as much as possible, adding these Caribbean islands to their itineraries.

Well, that’s exactly what American Airlines did at the end of December 2019, adding in two new routes to St. Thomas from both Chicago and Dallas. Although the Chicago route is a seasonal one, the Dallas route is set to operate year-round, giving you plenty of opportunities to go soak up that Caribbean vibe.

Wondering what there is to do in St. Thomas?

This cosmopolitan city is famous for its beaches, and boasts some of the most exquisite snorkeling spots in the entire world.

St. Thomas is also known for being one of the best places to shop in all of the Caribbean. Main Street in Downtown Charlotte Amalie is always popular, as is the upscale Yacht Haven Grande, complete with luxury yachts mooring at the dock here. While exploring this area, be sure to also stop off at the OROGOLD Virgin Islands store to treat your skin to some complimentary product demonstrations.

Of course, the local food in St. Thomas isn’t to be missed either…

The fresh seafood will be some of the best you have ever tasted, while kallaloo, a stew made from leafy greens, meat and okra, is another dish that your taste buds will love. Pate is also popular here, whether made from meat, fish or vegetables, while the sweet, coconut-derived Dumb bread is the perfect way to end a meal.

Don’t live near Dallas but still want a direct flight to St. Thomas?

There are a few other routes opening up in 2020, including a Delta flight from Atlanta and another United flight from Houston.

Boston to Vienna

Architecture in Vienna

If you live in Boston and have always wanted to visit Austria, chances are that you were put off by the complete lack of non-stop flights. Well, that’s all about to change in October 2020, as this is when Austrian Airlines will be beginning their new regular route between Vienna and Boston.

The only downside to this is that prices are likely to remain quite high, since there are no other airlines offering this same route.

However, if you don’t mind paying for convenience, then this flight will take you directly from Boston to Vienna International Airport, after which it’s just a short ride away to the city center.

Now, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the city…

Vienna is the capital of Austria, and sits at the east of the country. It is famous for its musical past, with its historic residents including Mozart and Beethoven. The city has also birthed many legendary artists, such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, making it a true hub for creativity.

The architecture around Vienna is something else that the city is unique for. St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which has been around for over 700 years, is a great example of this, as is Hofburg Palace and the Rathaus, otherwise known as City Hall.

As you can imagine, Vienna is a very picturesque city, making it well worth a visit for any of you Boston residents out there.

Philadelphia to Casablanca

At the moment, there are no U.S airlines that fly to Morocco, which is why the new route being opened by American Airlines, which travels between Philadelphia and Casablanca, is extremely exciting. Although this is just a seasonal service, operating between June and September 2020, it is still an incredible opportunity to visit this exotic city.

With Casablanca being the largest city in Morocco, there is so much to do here, so make sure that you include enough days in your trip. Some of the most popular things to do here include:

  • Visiting the Hassan II Mosque, which is the second-largest mosque in the world
  • Shopping at the Morocco Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in all of Africa
  • Exploring the Old Medina, a charming ancient district with labyrinth-style streets
  • Visiting the Place Mohamed V, where you will find some of the city’s most important buildings, all boasting exemplary architectural styles
  • Strolling along the Corniche, the city’s beachfront district where you will find numerous upscale restaurants, hotels and beach clubs
  • Shopping at the Central Market, an authentic local market that sells everything from clothing and souvenirs to vegetables and spices

New York to Mumbai

Train station and street in Mumbai

There has been an increasing demand in flights from the USA to Mumbai in recent years, with much of this coming from New York. Of course, with Mumbai being the financial center of India, this only makes sense, which is why Delta Airlines is stepping up.

Now, the Delta flight route between New York and Mumbai isn’t technically new at all…

The airline first started offering this route in 2006, but then had to close it down in 2009. However, this daily route is now set to be traveled once again, with flights leaving from New York JFK. The service began running in December 2019, and has done extremely well so far.

So, for all of you New Yorkers who have been yearning to experience the true heart and soul of India, now’s your chance! Mumbai is big, busy, noisy and chaotic. This is a city full of contrasts, home to some of the most expensive homes in the world, as well as some of the largest slums in Asia. In addition to being a financial center, it is also considered to be India’s fashion hub, and is home to India’s prolific Bollywood industry too.

For first time visitors, the city can initially seem overwhelming, so here are a few things to put on your itinerary:

  • A visit to the Gateway of India monument, which is a great place to begin exploring Mumbai by foot
  • Touring some of the historic colonial buildings around the city, including the Kala Goda art precinct, the Bombay High Court, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum and the buildings around Horniman Circle
  • A visit to Haji Ali, which is a mosque as well as a tomb, and is only accessible via a 500 yard walkway at low tide
  • Shopping at the many markets and local bazaars – try Colaba Causeway for clothes and shoes,  Chor Bazaar for antiques, and Crawford Market for fresh food and spices, as well as incredible architecture
  • Go on a tour of Film City to learn more about Mumbai’s famous Bollywood industry

San Diego to Montreal

Aerial view of Montreal

While there are direct flights to Montreal from many U.S cities, those who live in San Diego have had to go without…until now. Beginning in June 2020, Air Transat will be flying between San Diego and Montreal three times a week, with this seasonal service running until the end of October 2020.

Never flown with Air Transat before?

Well, in 2019, for the second year running, Air Transat was voted as the best leisure airline in the world, thanks to their friendly service, top-class entertainment systems, kids club, and flexible fares.

For those of you visiting Montreal for the first time, this Canadian city, which is the largest in the country, sits on an island, making it incredibly picturesque. The first place to go is Mount Royal, a large volcanic hill that offers spectacular views of downtown Montreal, as well as the south bank’s mountains.

The city also boasts some gorgeous historic buildings, such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, where you will find one of the most ornate gothic facades you have ever seen, along with its famous organ.

Of course, Montreal is also known for being a popular foodie destination. In fact, Montreal has more restaurants per capita than New York City! One of the best ways to taste your way around Montreal is with a food tour, and there are certainly plenty to choose from. If you would rather venture out on your own, make sure that you try the local specialty of poutine, as well as some Montreal-style pastrami.

San Francisco to Warsaw

City of Warsaw

Poland is becoming quite the travel destination, with an increasing number of attractions to offer its visitors. Sadly, there were not many direct flights from the USA to Poland to choose from, which is why LOT Polish Airlines have introduced four new non-stop routes to various Polish cities. In addition to the San Francisco to Warsaw leg, you can also choose from:

  • New York to Krakow
  • Washington, D.C. to Warsaw
  • Chicago to Krakow (this one is with American Airlines)

With all of these new routes opening up, chances are that fare prices will drop too, making this a win-win!

So, the San Francisco to Warsaw route will be starting in August 2020, with this being a year-round service. With Warsaw being the capital of Poland, this is the best place to go to immerse yourself in Polish life and culture, with the city’s Old Town being the ideal spot to begin. This area dates back to the 13th century, although many of the buildings here have been rebuilt. Still, the preservation that has taken place in this district has been enough to grant it protected status by UNESCO.

There are numerous churches, monuments and museums to visit throughout Warsaw, but make sure to also save some time to explore the city’s creative side. From trendy craft breweries to fascinating cultural events to quirky art galleries, Warsaw is bursting with creative energy.

While a stop or two isn’t usually a big deal when you are heading to your dream destination, it definitely does make it much more convenient to also have the option of a direct flight. Whether you have been wanting to explore historic European cities, or relax on a tropical beach, these seven new flight routes will open up a world of possibilities for you for 2020!

Running for 32 miles at the base of the Adirondacks, this glacier-formed lake is not only a hotspot during the summer months, but has plenty to offer as a Thanksgiving destination too.

Things to Do

With everything from forests to beaches, along with a healthy sprinkling of breweries and wineries, Lake George is the perfect vacation spot for many. Here are just a few of the activities you can enjoy in the area:

Where to Stay

The Four Seasons Hotel Washington D.C. is always a popular choice over Thanksgiving weekend, meaning that you will need to book yourself a room as soon as possible.

Why is this hotel especially popular for the holidays?

What You’ll Find at the Long Island Aquarium

Father and son at aquarium

The Long Island Aquarium opened on Long Island in 2000 and is themed around the Lost City of Atlantis. With its fascinating mixture of science and nature, this is an educational yet entertaining attraction that is suitable for just about every age group.

Indoor Exhibits
The Long Island Aquarium boasts a range of both indoor and outdoor exhibits, as well as special interactive displays. The indoor exhibits are always fun to explore, with the American Alligators, which are native to the southeastern United States, being one of the highlights. Archerfish, which actually spit at their prey, are another creature that you will see, as are the Discus Fish, which is one of the newest exhibits in the aquarium. Another must-see display is the Coral Reef, which is actually one of the largest all-living closed-system coral reefs in the Western Hemisphere.

Feeding penguins

Outdoor Exhibits
The outdoor exhibits at the Long Island Aquarium are where you will find a few of the aquarium’s larger creatures. The Penguin Pavilion is open year-round, and is home to African penguins, while the Sea Lion Coliseum is where you can go to watch majestic sea lions play together. The Otter Falls is home to two North American river otters, while the Koi Pond contains multiple species of koi, which are the national fish of Japan. For those who did not get enough of the alligators in the indoor exhibits, there are more to see outdoors at the Gator Invasion exhibit. This is open from June to September, as these are the months when the huge American alligators crawl up onto the banks of the Peconic River. From July to Labor Day, there are talks held at this exhibit to teach visitors more about these incredible reptiles.

Interactive Experiences
While watching the creatures of the Long Island Aquarium is definitely an educational experience, there is often so much more to be learned from being able to have the opportunity to directly interact with these animals, which is where the aquarium’s interactive experiences come in. The Penguin Encounter has guests meeting the African penguins up-close while learning how the aquarium keepers care for them, while the Pirate Snorkel Adventure will see you finding treasures below the water while swimming with a wide range of tropical fish. For those who are seeking more of an adrenaline rush, the Shark Dive might be just the activity for you, as this puts you nose-to-nose with some of the largest predators to be found in the ocean. If you are visiting the aquarium on a hot day, then do pay a visit to the Interactive Salt Marsh, which you will be able to walk through while being taught about the many inhabitants that reside here, from the horseshoe crabs to the whelks.

The Long Island Aquarium has frequently been voted as one of the best in the country, thanks to the way in which it emphasizes the importance of marine life, as well as environmental preservation. For those who are interested in marine life and the environment, this is a New York attraction that you will definitely not want to miss.

Running in New York

Couple running on Brooklyn Bridge

Running has always been a popular way for New Yorkers to stay fit, and there are so many different routes to choose from. Whether you are seeking a classic run through the heart of the city, or a leisurely jog through meadows of wildflowers, here are some areas to consider if you have been looking for a few new running routes in New York.

Sunken Meadow State Park
The Sunken Meadow State Park boasts a wide range of topography, as well as incredible views out over the Long Island Sound, with Connecticut in the distance. There are several trails to choose from here, including the 3.7 mile Sunken Meadow Loop Trail, the two-mile Greenbelt Trail, or simply just running along the three-mile beach.

Joggers in Central Park

The Central Park Loop
For those who want an easily accessible run in the heart of Manhattan, but away from traffic, the Central Park loop is idea. The scenery that you will see within the park is varied enough to be interesting throughout the run, which stretches out for just under ten kilometres, and there will also be easy access to facilities, from restrooms to water fountains, as well as many other runners to provide you with some extra motivation.

The East River Run
The East River Run is the route to take if you are hoping to catch some gorgeous city views along your way. This run starts off at the top of Central Park, before going over the RFK Bridge to Randall’s Island, and then returning back again. This is a long run, measuring just over 16 miles, but there are ways to cut it short, such as by skipping Queens. The route itself is great as it avoids a large amount of traffic, meaning that you will be able to maintain a steady stride throughout.

The Five Bridges Run
The Five Bridges Run is another long route, measuring just under 17 miles. This route will take you to so many places around the city, and will have you crossing five bridges, including the Manhattan Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge. Alternatively, you can shorten the route to just two bridges, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, which takes the journey down to just over three miles. While this is a great route for those who want to see more of the city, it does take you through some heavily populated areas, so you are best doing this run early in the morning if you want to avoid large amounts of traffic, both road and foot.
