Take to the Green Slopes at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort
Located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, just six miles from Salt Lake City, the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is a popular year-round resort. Now that summer is approaching, here are some of the seasonal activities that you can look forward to taking part in at the resort.
Snowbird Aerial Tram
Opened in 1971, the Aerial Tram travels along a 1.6 mile cable, up 2900 vertical feet to the top of Hidden Peak, where you will be rewarded with incredible views. The entire round-trip journey can be done in just 40 minutes, which includes 20 minutes to explore Hidden Peak, or, alternatively, you can take the Aerial Tram to the top, and then the Peruvian chairlift back down, since tickets for both are interchangeable during the summer months.
Peruvian Express Chairlift and Tunnel
The Peruvian Express Chairlift offers a 16 minute ride up 2400 vertical feet, where you will not only see stunning views, but also close-up encounters with wildlife. Once at the top, there is a 600 foot long tunnel that takes visitors to the Mineral Basin, which is famous for its wildflowers and wilderness hiking trails.
Vertical Drop
The Vertical Drop is one of the newest activities to be introduced at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, and, if you have ever wanted to give bungee jumping a try, then this is an activity that is just right for you. Visitors must climb the 50 foot green tower, before dropping down nine feet of freefall, followed by an auto-belay down to the ground. For those who would like a practice run first, there is the Little Drop available, which is three feet of freefall and then 30 feet of auto-belay.
Snowbird Mountain Coaster
While there may not be any skiing to be had in the summer, the Snowbird Mountain Coaster will give you the adrenaline rush that you are seeking. This ride features 3120 feet of twists and turns, beginning near the base of the Peruvian Chairlift. However, if you do not enjoy fast rides, do not fear, as the speed of each cart is controlled by the driver.
Wasatch Mining Company
The Wasatch Mining Company is an activity that is ideal for the whole family, as it will teach you so much about what life was like in Little Cottonwood Canyon’s early days. Here, visitors have the opportunity to pan for real gemstones in a mining sluice, and are even allowed to take their finds home with them.
The Cliff Spa
With all of the action-packed activities available at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, it is always a good idea to spend some time relaxing and pampering yourself. This is where the elegant Cliff Spa comes in, with its 21 treatment rooms, yoga studio, rooftop pool, hot tub and so much more. The spa focuses on mountain-specific treatments that not only promise to relax the mind and body, but also rejuvenate the spirit.
The Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is a fantastic destination to visit throughout the year, whether you are travelling on your own or with a large family. From the fun-filled rides to the outstanding natural beauty to the rejuvenating spa, this is a resort that definitely aims to please.
